Rambutan, Glass Beach, Poipu Sunset, Taste of the Botanical Garden and Full Moon

"What is this funky island fruit?" Some kind of weird strawberry? No, it's the Rambutan!
Score the skin with your teeth or a knife but the hairs are kind of tickly and pliable
peel apart the leathery skin and pop out the fruit ...
It's translucent, sweet, and jelly like...yummy!
Wailua Falls near Lihue on the East Shore
In ancient and sometimes modern times, men would jump off the falls to prove their manhood...a usually fatal task! It's 173 feet of solid drop...actually taller than Niagara Falls.
We stopped by the National Tropical Botanical Gardens and made reservations to tour the garden on New Years Eve...my anniversary present...these were taken just around the visitor center as a little taste of what's to come...
The colors!
Everywhere a visual delight
Even Ricardo enjoyed the garden...

Huge, gorgeous hibiscus and lots of it...heres a few

All twisted up!
Lucky shot of this red-headed woodpecker!
Millions of pieces of broken glass washed in from bottles and auto glass make a colorful tapestry at Glass Beach
He picked through the glass and I took pictures...love the water against the beach here
Hand full of pickins...
The point where all that glass comes from...an old dump!
South Shore Po'ipu Beach Sunset
Down it goes...
Full moon at Wailau Beach (4.5 miles from the house)

Hi! Glad you enjoyed your stay in Kaua'i! Your red-headed woodpecker is actually a Red-Crested Cardinal imported from South America in the 1930s. Cheers! -Adam

As a long-time resident of the Niagara Region, I'm obliged to tell you that "the Falls" are actually 177 feet tall.
Nice photos, though. That woodpecker looks much more like a cardinal!
