Smith's Tropical Paradise Luau

Friday night was our Luau and what fun that was! The grounds, of course, like everything here, were gorgeous. We were greeted by many peacocks and were asked to either ride a tram or stroll around the area...lucky for us it didn't rain during the whole thing considering it had rained all day long. Here we have the regal female...but surpassed in beauty by the male....
What a fine looking specimen they are...I tried flirting with him to see if he would show me his stuff but I guess I wasn't his type
We did an exchange on photo ops
All of the grounds were like this
Now here is a stunning display for the entry to the open air eating area. They fed about 250 of us buffet style...it looked like a huge wedding party and it went pretty quickly. They had an open bar going in the mean time and some entertainment. Great food and good conversations.
This is how the pit looks before the pig goes in
This is one of ours waiting to come out
The "ceremony" begins with the blowing of the Conch Shell in the 4 directions. What an awesome sound they make! Then the unvieling begins...its quite a process removing that sand in a certain fashion
They pull back the canvas wrappings then have to dig out the hot lava rocks...WARNING the next picture is not for the vegan squeamish
Ooooo...anyone for some pig? This poor fella looked like a sacrifice! How come he's not lying down, docile like, with an apple in his mouth?
After dinner we all move down to an ampitheater...so all seating is great. I have very few pics because they were always in motion and things were blurry. They put on a fantastic show...what we liked the most was the diversity of it. They did dances from their first ancestors the Tahitians, then the traditional Hawaiian, as well as from cultures now inhabiting the islands such as the Japanese, Chinese and those from New Zealand. They also paid homage to Pele the Goddess of Fire...the Volcano. Here were a few I was able to catch
The Japanese move slower ;-) All the costumes were outrageous
It ended with the traditional fire dance. WOW he was amazing and
the pic was snagged from their website...All in all a great, fun night!
